Abstract. The relevance of this problem is expressed in a deep study of the peculiarities of the perception of shape and size in older preschool children with mental retardation is necessary for the adequate compilation and selection of adapted special correctional techniques in correctional and developmental work on the sensory development of children of this category. It is important to take into account the fact that the most successful mental development of preschool children occurs in play, since play is the leading type of activity at this age stage.
